Some LALD and other content:
First off, a ‘68 cougar, an esprit, and a Maverick for a buck each. Nice.
Then, the DVD section, where I got two birds stoned at the same time.
And finally, what I actually went out for (something to use on a foosball table), and something to add to my buddy’s secret Shrine of Lord Vader.
Then there were the two Minion toys and some dry erase markers for D& D, no pic.
...I’m an adult and can be trusted with money.

I still have my old copies of the Dungeon Master’s Guide and the Player character handbook, and some other monster catalogs.

Oh, my library isn’t that extensive. Last time I played D&D was in college. I was in a group with a regular Sunday meeting. I haven’t really met anyone that plays in person since, come to think of it.

I’m not actually in or running d&d qua d&d at the moment, but I’d like to be. Meanwhile, I *am* running Deadlands, Star Wars Saga, and Pathfinder (basically d&d 3.5), and I’m in a Star Wars Saga game. As a scheming chrome business droid with an embossed cummerbund on his chassis and homemade grenades.

That sounds like an interesting character. I had kinda wondered if the old in person RPG groups had gone extinct in favor of online ones. Progress and all.

Well, yeah, but I figured grab them as a stopgap until such time as my clown relatives stop slamming the levers so hard, I replace the rod bushings, and/or I order proper balls.
Cheap foosball table. Not too horribly light balls either.

I’ve done play by post a little, but the herding cats part of my regular college group back then was made worse in that framework.
I prefer in person groups because there’s neither a delay of people posting or filibustering of chat/divided attention of chat like with roll20 (a thing like Skype for d&d).
My droid is being played for maximum perversity. He insists and firmly believes he’s programmed to be pacifist, despite the grenades. He’s attacking the ground, you see. (A disastrous result of his programming permitting incidental death, because any course of action in business with death risks on both hands would be otherwise paralyzing).
Also, any attack with fists or blunt weapons is intended to injure, and not kill, so that might be okay. Also, attacking non sapients is probably fine, and the true mark of a sapient is whether he engages in commerce. So, jawas are close to top of the heap.
Then there’s his elaborate fake identity as a Corellian playwright and unhealthy obsession with lying and stealing people’s weapons in combat.

This is cool.
I’m sort of involved in a campaign using the older WEG rules (‘Sort of’ because we haven’t played since end of March 2017). I’ve been playing a grumpy, opportunistic Sullustan mechanic. It’s an interesting campaign, but a bit annoying because the gamemaster caters to the young Jedi apprentice character. Apparently my character is the non-Force-using foil to the young Jedi as my character is a fairly awful person.

My character has levels in Scoundrel and Noble. All but one are in Noble. We started above level 1, and got a certain amount of wealth by level which I spent on a 5hp shield generator. My droid type starts with conditional bonus feats for specialization in Knowledge: Galactic Lore and Knowledge: Bureaucracy (IIRC), and I’m trained in something like 11-12 skills since I’ve taken skill training as a feat twice. I’m the party Bard/Rogue/strategist. The face. Because of how every class customizes with bonus feats in Saga and that I’m multiclassed, I’ll be getting two feats next level (9), which I’ll spend on Improved Disarm and Skill Focus: Deception. LIES MODULE AT FULL CAPACITY
No Force users in the party, as we’re all droids... and we’re all fairly to extremely awful. We’re in the middle of an ambush on a sandcrawler, because our boss’s rival got him in a sticky wicket with a krayt dragon. This guy gon’ die.

I think you have to kill Hot Wheels. Which, in fairness, since you can choose means of death it can probably be by loop track pointed out of window.

I came up with a mechanic/navigator who was arrested by the Empire for slave trading and told the gamemaster I will screw anyone over any chance I get. I just haven’t had the chance yet.
The ‘young Jedi apprentice’, in the first combat experience, on a single roll mind you, managed to front-flip from the back of the group to the front, land, draw his lightsaber, and cut down 3 stormtroopers. Shortly after that, he used his astromech droid to make a ship repair and an astrogation roll, rendering 3 of the people in the group useless in 10 minutes (one of those was the gamemaster’s son). I let the gamemaster know after the session was over that I wasn’t waiting another year and driving 2 hours to sit and watch the Young Jedi Apprentice show. He vowed to make adjustments, but the group hasn’t met since.

Yikes. There’s fatal imbalance of munchkinery, failure to define rolls by plot, droid power problems, and Jedi power problems all in one go.
It’s okay to have an overpowered Jedi as long as everybody’s a Jedi or the Jedi’s skills can’t get him everywhere. It’s okay to have an overpowered droid as long as the rules carnage doesn’t continue to grow and realistic limitations come in. (No, you can’t fix that fluid leak, it would require hands. No, you can’t move through the crowd unnoticed..)
It’s even okay to have one person doing everything important and outclassing everybody else in combat as long as there’s something to do for everybody, or you bend the rules and/or allow munchkinery with the non-Jedi so they can shine. I’ve heard good stories about gadget books and becoming Batman in WEG...
Oh well. Sounds like the two hour drive and low frequency made it a lot worse, too.

Your droid sound like the opposite of Three Laws compliant.

I don’t know anything about this RPG, but perhaps it’s time for your mechanic to start tinkering with the apprentice’s light saber.

I can’t seem to reply to the correct post, so I’ll have to do it here (oh, Kinja!):
The dude playing the YJA is a pastor though...so...I don’t know how that’s going to go over...
If he really wants to be one with the Force, he’ll be getting that much closer in the next melee. He should be grateful.

Well, let’s see. First law is shot all to hell short of a figleaf of “not *directly* actually killing humanoids. mostly.”, second law is a nightmare of creative misinterpretation at this point (“book passage to _ planet.” “Okay” - steals ship out of impound, files fraudulent paperwork), and the third law... well, if I’m strategically willing to injure myself with close grenades and attempts to grab weapons and taunt enemies, is that the third law falling apart or is there just a delusion of invincibility? “I HAVE A SHIELD I’M FINE”
Yet, if you were to ask him, unlike the killbots in the party, he would say he totally is three laws compliant. Yep. All the way. That’s by design, because his end goal, his “destiny” is to become a Hollywoodesque business mogul, and becoming a self-deluding insane amoral megalomaniac is part and parcel.
Besides which, it’s more fun to be Bizarro-Asimov than actually just be a droid who can do whatever he likes.
If I run an Oppos-inclusive Pathfinder game on Roll20, I’ll call you up. Not too hard to get if you have previous D&D experience, and all the rules are open source.

That could be fun. I wonder if I could build a viable character that incorporates as many as possible of the 2500 things Mr. Welch is not allowed to do in one person. It would be a nice change from my last goody two shoes ranger PC.

Some of them are contradictory, but you absolutely could be a quarter ton drow with a stupid pun name who’s a lycanthrope and a fop and uses tenser’s floating disc instead of walking and be obsessed with misuse of heavy weapons all at once. Hard, but not impossible, and a good start.
I’ve been looking at building a D&D table with an LCD screen and an electronic whiteboard kit, run by a raspberry pi. Allows for loading up a map from a PDF in GIMP or similar, sizing it, and doing a screen overlay with markup from the whiteboard kit so areas of fire effects, etc. are easy to keep track of. It’ll be yuge. Spectacular, even. The best D&D table ever, believe me. Might also work with Roll20, so it’d be possible to have a mixed local and long distance game.
